Tale as old as time 2
On the next day, the sisters were visiting the top of the cliff and mourning Psyche, when a sudden gust of wind took them away.
They woke up in the gardens of a beautiful palace. But the greatest surprise came when Psyche opened the gates and went to greet them. The whole day long, they wandered around the grounds and marvelled at the treasures that seemed to be everywhere. And they heard Psyche talk about how happy she was with her lover. They became sick with envy. But Psyche ended up admitting that she had never seen her lover's face. "But he can be a terrible monster!", said one of the sisters. "He could be just waiting to kill you when he gets tired of you", said the other. They made Psyche promise that she would bring a candle and a dagger to her room that night, so she could unveil his face, and cut his head if he were the monster they expected him to be.
Psyche acted according the plan. While her lover was asleep, she rose and went to get the hidden dagger and the candle. Silently she approached him. She carefully removed his mask, and brought the candle closer. She was not prepared to see his face. There was no monster there, but Eros, the god of love himself. And he was so beautiful, that Psyche's hand trembled with the emotion and the candle let fall one single drop of oil over his chest.
Eros awoke startled. "Where there is no trust, there is no love", he said as he flew away.
Psyche was enveloped by darkness and fell in a swoon.
When she awoke, there was no more beautiful palace. She was back to her father's lands.
