Tale as old as time 1

Once upon a time, there lived a princess so beautiful that the goddess of beauty herself became jealous. Aphrodite could not admit that a simple mortal would be her rival. And she planned a terrible vengeance. She ordered her son Eros to pour over her a potion that would prevent any man to approach her. Then, he should pierce her with one of his arrows and make her fall in love with the most despicable creature on earth.
Eros did the first part of his mission. But as he beheld the sleeping girl, he was touched by her beauty, and pricked himself with one of his own arrows. He poured over her another potion, that would give her joy in life and then pricked her. Psyche woke up startled, but no one else was there.
Though beautiful, no one seemed to want to marry the princess. The king was worried and went to consult an oracle. Then he discovered something terrible. "Psyche should not belong to a mortal man", proclaimed the oracle. "She should wed a terrible beast". To appease the gods, the girl should be thrown over a cliff, in order to meet her doom.
The grieved king obeyed. And Psyche was taken to the top of the cliff. But as she stepped on the air, a strong wind took her.
She woke up in the gardens of a beautiful palace, surrounded by fruit trees. Inside she found rooms and rooms full of treasures. Inside she also found her future husband. He wore a strange animal mask to hide his face. The girl was scared at first, but in time she learned to love the one who hid behind the mask, for he was gentle and true. In her arms, she found herself at peace.
But one day, she started missing her sisters, and begged her lover to bring them there. He shook his head sadly and warned her that much grief would come from her wish.
